The French colonial administration built Maison Centrale in 1896, on land then associated with the Hỏa Lò craft village. The surviving prison relic interprets the confinement and resistance of Vietnamese political prisoners, while later displays address the site’s use for captured American pilots between 1964 and 1973. This is a place for attentive reading rather than a hurried stop: follow the exhibition sequence, distinguish original fabric from interpretation, and leave room for the testimony carried by documents and objects. The official site lists daily opening from 08:00 to 17:00, including public holidays.
